RED DOOR STUDIO

Welcome to Red Door Studio

Shirley Shepherd is primarily a self-taught artist who continues taking classes and workshops to better her painting skills. A native of Charleston, West Virginia, she has lived in the state of Georgia for several years.

Originally her focus was on oils, but, in 1995, Shirley discovered the world of watercolor and multimedia. These new techniques began the first of many transitions for this artist. She loves the boldness of color and fluidity that she can achieve with the use of watercolor and acrylics.

Ms. Shepherd’s body of work includes traditional watercolor, as well as impressionistic techniques. Paintings include landscapes, flowers and abstract realism utilizing watercolor, acrylics, watercolor pencil and crayon, as well as stained washi in the creation of watercolor/collage works. She also utilizes gesso and naturalistic components in the creation of some of her background textures. Her mentor for most of these techniques is Lynn Weisbach, a very talented Atlanta workshop instructor.

Shirley Shepherd truly enjoys creating new and exciting pieces, all designed to interact with the human spirit in each of us.

Ms. Shepherd works at the Red Door Studio and Gallery at her home in Lawrenceville, Georgia
